According to Hong Kong Economic Times Apple’s iTunes Movies and iBooks services were blocked in China. China’s internet content is regulated by country’s laws and a great number of websites are blocked here due to severe Internet censorship. Among the blocked sites such popular websites as Facebook, Youtube, Google and others.
State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television pass the law which restricts Apple’s iBooks and iTunes Movies in China.
iBooks and iTunes Movies services were launched in China six months ago. Today China is Apple’s second biggest market in the world.
Apple is hoping to restore the services shortly, however now everybody who is trying to access these services get the message: “service unusable”.
“We hope to make books and movies available again to our customers in China as soon as possible,”
a Beijing-based Apple spokeswoman said.
An Apple spokesperson also said that the service was only available in the US, United Kingdom or Australia, but declined to comment further when it was pointed out that Apple users in South Korea and Hong Kong were able to view content.
As for now Apple Music and Apple Pay services are still available, but Chinese authorities may ban these tools.
Previously in March the law against sharing content from non-national providers such as Apple was announced. This is further censor the internet in China.
“The law prohibits foreign ownership and joint ventures in online publishing and stipulate that all content be stored on servers in China”
